Echocardiogram in cardiac amyloidosis

Chapter 5

Cardiac amyloidosis is an infiltrative disease characterized by deposition of amyloid fibrils in the myocardium resulting in an increase thickness of both left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) walls. Echocardiography due to the large availability is the first line tool for cardiac amyloidosis evaluation. Echocardiographic parameters, both functional e morphological, can help clinicians in discriminate cardiac amyloidosis from other causes of LV hypertrophy. Moreover echocardiographic evaluation can discriminate among different disease stages and identify subjects at higher risk of cardiovascular complication.
